::Seeking for guidance::

Pray 2 rakaats and recite this do’a afterwards:

O Allah, I seek Your guidance by invoking Your knowledge; I ask You to empower me, and I beseech Your favor. You alone have the absolute power, while I have no power. You alone know it all, while I do not. You are the One Who knows the hidden mysteries. O Allah, if You know this thing [here mention your case like the name of the one you want to pop the question etc] is good for me in my religion, worldly life, and my ultimate destiny, then facilitate it for me, and then bless me in my action. If, on the other hand, You know this thing is bad for me in my religion, worldly life, and ultimate destiny, turn it away from me, and turn me away from it, and decree what is good for me, wherever it may be, and make me satisfied with it.

The supplication above was reported in a hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah as Salami r.a that The Prophet used to teach his companions to make istikharah in all things just as he used to teach them verses from al Quran. The Prophet said: “If any one of you is concerned about a decision he has to make, then let him pray two rakaats of nafil prayer then recite: (i) the supplication above” – hadith reported by Bukhari, Tirmidzi, Nasaii, Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah and Ahmad.

As an addition to the above, some scholars like to recite an ayah from surah al baqarah in the last sujud of the prayer:

سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلاَّ مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ

(al baqarah:32)

Then just proceed with what you want to do, inshaAllah there’s a khair and hikmah for you. Whether or not the decision you have made would finally bring good consequences, no one knows about it and it’s all up to Allah The Almighty. furthermore one who seeks guidance from Allah and trusts Him completely and consults his/her fellow believers and then remains firm in his/her will never feel regret whatsoever. why? coz he/she trusts Allah and knows that all those consequences are really meant for him/her, so he/she will content with anything of such. that’s what we call tawakkal which Allah has mentioned in al Quran in surah Aali Imran verse 159:

(ii) ‘…and consult them in the affair. Then when you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah…”

Allah knows best
